What I do and why
A little bit about my work.
As a Senior Mental Health Lead, I am a highly-motivated, warm and compassionate educator, with a genuine desire to make a difference to the lives of young people. I also work as a consultant, trainer and speaker.
My fundamental belief is that the foundation of life-long learning should be a safe and nurturing environment, which enables children to reach their full potential. As such, I place kindness and compassion at the core of everything I do and I am committed to embodying these values in the workplace.
In my role as Senior Mental Health Lead, and as a trained Draw and Talk, ELSA and Thrive licenced practitioner, I have empowered parents and staff teams. I have supported children 1:1 and in group settings, as well as delivering bespoke mental health education to primary aged pupils. I designed and led the whole school’s relational approach – as a result, my relational policy is now used as an exemplar for schools across the UK (via Thrive). A recent Ofsted report cited my school’s wellbeing provision as "exemplary".
I was also instrumental in designing an engaging and bespoke whole school curriculum for PSHE at my current school. I have completed training in Thrive, Trauma Informed Schools, ELSA, Draw and Talk, Mental Health First Aid and Mindfulness in School Project.
As a consultant, I have developed high-quality, inspiring and creative teaching and learning resources for Universal films, Penguin Books, youth mental health charity ‘Now and Beyond’ and literacy charity BookTrust. My latest projects include co-authoring the second edition of The Little Book about the Big Brain (a book that applies learnings from neuroscience in education settings) as well as collaborating with Cbeebies presenters to write and produce a song for Now and Beyond’s children’s mental health week festival (see below!).
I am passionate about the benefits of movement and spending time outdoors for my mental health, and enjoy running, SUP boarding and yoga. My love of learning means I am an avid reader and enjoy listening to podcasts to further my understanding of mental health and wellbeing.
